Flash! Henry Cavill of The Tudors cast as Superman

Director Zack Snyder’s 2012 Superman: Man of Steel, has cast its Superman.

It’s Henry Cavill, who played Charles Brandon on The Tudors.

Given the quintessentially American nature of Superman, will there be any controversy in a having a non-American play the part?  Probably not…ever since they learned to do American accents in the post-Olivier era, many American roles seem to go to actors from outside the States.

A couple of other upcoming iconic roles and actors (may not be official):

Charlie’s Angels (2011 TV series)

Charlie (originally John Forsythe) = Robert Wagner, Jill (originally Farah Fawcett, if it’s Jill Munroe) = Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital), Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Rachael Taylor (Transformers)

Mr. Peabody and Sherman  (2012 movie)

Mr. Peabody (originally Bill Scott) (a bespectacled scientist dog on the Rocky & Bullwinkle show): Robert Downey Jr.
