Flash! 2010 Razzie noms

Flash! 2010 Razzie noms

The

Razzies

are sort of the Bizarro World* version of the Oscars.

That’s not just because they are “honoring” the worst, rather than the best, in moviemaking achievement the year.

It’s also because having a big budget is more likely to net you a Razzie, and less likely to get you an Oscar (except in some technical categories).

The movie with the most Razzie noms, Eclipse and The Last Airbender, also dogroed (domestic gross) 301 million (#4 for the year) and 132m (#17) respectively.

However, I mentioned it was budgets: The Last Airbender had a reported $150 million budget, and Eclipse was reported to be $65 million.  Jonah Hex makes it to the Razzies with a reported budget of $47 million…and a dogro of around $10m.

Of course, it takes more than a large budget…Vampires Suck made it with only $20m. 😉

There are also some different categories…there was a special one this year called Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D.

Just like with the Oscars, having been nominated before is a good predictor of being nominated again.  Megan Fox is up for her third Razzie (as part of the clever Worst Screen Couple of Josh Brolin’s Face & Megan Fox’s Accent for Jonah Hex).  M. Night Shyamalan was previously nominated five times (and won once).

It’s worth noting that Jackson Rathbone is up for Worst Supporting Actor…and was top ten in our 2010 Box Office MVPs  preliminary listing.

Winners (?) will be announced the night before the Oscars (Saturday, February 26), as is traditional (this is the 31st Razzie event).

And the nominees are…

* The Bizarro World is part of the Superman comic book universe.  While commonly thought of as doing everything in the opposite way that it is done on Earth (indeed, that’s the stated goal of the inhabitants), that’s really not true…it’s more skewed and twisted.  The Bizarro version of Superman, for example is not super-weak and super-slow.
