Anne Francis reported dead
“See androids fighting…Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in…Forbidden Planet”
–The Rocky Horror Picture Show
lyrics by Richard O’Brien
Anne Francis starred in the classic science fiction adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, called Forbidden Planet. It was one of the influences behind Star Trek. In it, her character is a powerful innocent…representing, in a sense, an idealized womanhood. One of Anne Francis’ co-stars in Forbidden Planet died November 28, 2010.
In a career that spanned more than five decades on screen, she appeared in many geek-friendly shows…from the Twilight Zone to The Man from U.N.C.L.E., to Wonder Woman to Charlie’s Angels, to her starring role as the detective Honey West. In that show, she had a pet ocelot…and many of her fans thought that was a perfect match for the cat-like Francis.
Honey West brought her a Golden Globe win and an Emmy nomination.
Her mainstream work included Funny Girl and the classic Western, Bad Day at Black Rock.
Good-bye, Anne…with your loss, the world is a little less sultry.
Streaming Netflix suggestions:
