Blake Edwards reported dead

Writer/Director/Producer/Actor Blake Edwards, probably most associated with helming the original Pink Panther movies, has reportedly died.

While there were many themes in his work, his work is also associated with two of the greatest themes of all time: Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther theme, and what I still consider the best TV theme song…Mancini’s Peter Gunn.

In the late 1970s, early 1980s, Blake Edwards brought us light sexy/edgy movies that helped define the period: 10 (with Bo Derek and Dudley Moore), and SOB and Victor/Victoria with Julie Andrews (who survives him after a marriage of more than forty years).  Edwards arguably revitalized Andrews career, giving her a new direction after being associated with “sweet” roles.  Andrews was one of our top twenty Box Office Most Valuable Players for 2010…still showing the comedy talent Edwards had highlighted with his direction and scripts.

Our hearts go out to Julie Andrews this morning.

Edwards special blend of humor and sexiness will continue to be seen by future generations.

Recommended streaming Netflix:

  • 10
  • Peter Gunn (TV series)
  • Victor/Victoria
  • Days of Wine and Roses
  • Experiment in Terror
  • The Great Race
  • The Pink Panther (and sequels)
