James Macarthur reported dead

The Hawaii 5-0 remake is one of the most talked about shows of the new season.

That’s why I was surprised that the passing of James MacArthur on October 28 of this year, the original “Danno”, didn’t get more coverage.

Even though he had been nominated for a BAFTA  (British Academy of Film and Television Arts…roughly the equivalent of the Oscar and Emmy) before 5-0, and worked sporadically in television after, there is no question that he was best known for the Hawaiia-set series.

He had appeared in the Disney version of Swiss Family Robinson, which for years was the “treehouse” attraction in Adventureland in Disneyland.  His genre work including television guest spots on Tarzan, Fantasy Island, and the Adventures of Superboy.

I also remember him in The Bedford Incident.  While the Cold War drama starred Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier, MacArthur was part of a strong supporting cast that included Wally Cox, Michael Kane, and Martin Balsam.

“Bye-bye, Danno…”
