“If you stop being a…”

October 22, 2010

“If you stop being a student, you stop being an artist.”
–Ross Graham, 9/1980

This is one in a series of quotations.

I’ve been working, from time to time, on a book of quotations for many years.  I call it, “The Mind Boggles”, from one of my favorite quotations.  I do source quotations a bit differently from a lot of people.  In the case of a work of a fiction, I consider that the character said the line…not the author.  As a bit of an author myself (in a minor way), I can tell you…my characters definitely say things that I would never say.  These are all quotations that I’ve collected myself: I’ve read the book, seen the TV episode, and so on.

Hope you enjoy them!

Flash! Tom Bosley reported dead

October 20, 2010

Flash! Tom Bosley reported dead

It’s a sad week in sitcom land.

We just lost Barbara Billingsley, who played June Cleaver on Leave it to Beaver.

Now comes news that Tom Bosley, who played Howard Cunningham (that’s “Mr. C” to the Fonz) on Happy Days has passed on.

While Howard was a bit gruff, he was open-minded enough to accept Fonzie into his home and life.  He was always fair, and always wanted the best for his family.

While that is undoubtedly, Tom Bosley’s most famous role, he was a genre-friendly actor with a lot of guest spots…and another starring series I was just talking about last week, Father Dowling Mysteries.

Classic series on which he guest-starred included: The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.; Get Smart (in which he played a KAOS agent!); The Mod Squad; Night Gallery; Bewitched; Mission:Impossible; Kolchak: the Night Stalker: and Love, American Style (many times).

As it true with a lot of actors, he started doing more voice work towards the end of his career.  He voiced characters on a number of shows, including Johnny Bravo and Family Guy (on which he reprised his Howard Cunningham role).

Good-bye, Mr. C.  The apartment garage is going to be a whole lot colder without your fatherly advice…

“AS Randall marched down the corridor…”

October 19, 2010

“AS Randall marched down the corridor it occurred to him that limping out to his truck to retrieve a chainsaw in order to cut up a feral beast that gobbled intestines was exactly the kind of ‘acting without thinking’ behavior that had so many problems in his marriage.  Well, that and the drinking.”
