New Torchwood episodes coming!

New Torchwood episodes coming!

Torchwood, a spin-off from Doctor Who, is one of my favorite series of the past five years.

There’s been a lot of speculation about what would happen next.  We’ve had two full seasons (or series, if you prefer), and one mini-series.

There was talk of an American version.

Well, it’s now confirmed: there will be a ten-part series/season, again starring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harknes, and Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper.

There will also be Americans in the cast: the Torchwood group is going to go worldwide (although creator Russell T (sic) Davies promise laughs and a focus on the relationships as well), and there will be some culture clash with the Cardiff group and the American one.

It’s being co-financed by the BBC and Starz.

This link includes a video interview with Davies:

Hollywood Reporter article

It is scheduled to appear on BBC One and Starz in the summer of 2011.  If we don’t have Starz, will we see it in the state then?  I’m guessing a bit later.

Torchwood isn’t for everybody, and some stories have been too large scale, I think, to work well.  It’s the characters and their interactions that are most interesting.

Captain Jack is one of the all-time great characters.  I don’t want to give away too much (I’m very careful about that), but John Barrowman finds the flirtatiousness, ruthlessness, and sadness of the role.  It all adds up to a charismatic charmer…with depth.

I’d recommend you start from the beginning, because there are story arcs.  You can watch it on streaming Netflix.

If you do want to jump in the middle, I’d suggest Out of Time (season/series 1, episode 10).

Got an opinion on the series?  Feel free to let me know…

I never watched Dr Who but I ran across Torchwood on Netflix streaming and gave it a try. I’m so glad I did! It is the best Sci-Fi series I’ve seen; I watched Seasons 1 & 2 and the mini-series over one weekend. Just couldn’t stop watching. I look forward to seeing the new season in 2011, although I will still miss [EDITED FOR SPOILERS]. I agree that the interactions af the characters is a very important part of the show’s likeability factor.

      Thanks for writing, Becca!

Yes, I think Torchwood appeals to a lot of people…you don’t need to be a Who fan to like it. 🙂

I hope you don’t mind that I edited your post, just to remove the spoilers. I agree with your sentiment, by the way…the fact that they are willing to do those sorts of things on the series is part of what makes it good, but I also miss those elements.

I was glad when they made it available on Netflix streaming…that’s a great service!

I am so glad their continuing Torchwood. I really wish they’d make more episodes in a season though. You know you can watch it on [website1] and [website2] free. They also offer international links. )BUFO’S NOTE: I have removed the names of the websites, because I am unsure about their legal status, and to avoid advertising].

I agree! More episodes would be better.

I redacted the website names, as I’ve noted, because I’m not sure about their legal status. Torchwood 1, 2, and Children of Earth are available streaming through Netflix, which I know it okay. 🙂
