 By the writers of Grayskull!

Heat Vision (part of The Hollywood Reporter) is exclusively reporting in this

Heat Vision article

that the new movie version of He-Man now has writers.

Okay, if you didn’t now it was He-Man from the Grayskull reference, I’ll lower the spikes on the driveway, and you can back out and go to another blog.  😉

Just kidding, I always welcome people, with any level of pop culture awareness.

He-Man was a 1980s cartoon based on a toy line.  That’s important: it was based on toys, not the other way around.  Mattel brought it to Lou Scheimer and Filmation, and it went from there.

It was a big hit in syndication (which is where it started).

The basic set-up is that Adam is the Prince of Eternia, and he can turn into He-Man to fight Skeletor.  There’s a lot more to it than that, of course.

One spin-off was She-Ra…which came about when Mattel wanted to sell “girl” toys.

It was very influential in its day.  One eventual result that made purists shiver: a Conan the Adventurer series in which the barbarian used a magic sword…the original Conan wasn’t a big fan of magic.  😉

It has been made into a live-action movie  once before, with Dolph Lundgren as Adam/He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor…quick, which one has been nominated for an Oscar?  😉

Heat Vision says that Mike Finch and Alex Litvak have been tapped to script the new project.

Who are they?  They are the buzzy writing partners behind the new Predators movie.  That’s a good thing, really.  🙂  While another sequel to the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Predator might sound…less than epic, the pre-word on this has been good.

I have to say, I’m not quite sure how they would pull this off…I don’t see how you don’t gear it for kids.  Kids movies have been raking in the money, though, so they could probably pay for those live action special effects.

So, do they have the power?  Is the pen mighty enough for the magic sword?

We’ll see if these cats are more of the Cringer or Battle variety.  😉
