Dixie Carter reported dead

It’s absolutely proper in my mind that most stories about the death of Dixie Carter are going to put Designing Women front and center.   Her portrayal of self-empowered Julia Sugarbaker is how she will be best known.

As this

AP article

demonstrates, you’ll also read about her more recent portrayal of Gloria Hodge on Desperate Housewives for which she was nominated for an Emmy award.

Less well-known?  Her starring role in Out of the Blue, a “mermaid out of water” series in which she played host to an angel named Random.  The show had a connection to Happy Days, since Random appeared to Chachi and Fonzie in one episode.

Dixie Carter was seventy, and is survived by her third husband, the well-known actor Hal Holbrook
