Flash! Saturday is Obscura Day (Tour the Obscure)
Are you the kind of person who goes to Paris, and rather than going to the Eiffel Tower, you look forward to the Sewer Museum? No? Interesting choice of blog reading, then. 😉
Just kidding: I embrace the mainstream as well.
Today, March 20th, is Obscura Day. In twenty countries and with eighty events, people today are going to the offbeat tourist attractions.
Happen to be near Joshua Tree, California? Wait…um…williing to trek out to Joshua Tree? Join a group going to the Integratron, George van Tassel’s giant wooden dome built in the 1950s. Van Tassel was one of the Georges supposedly contacted by aliens (George Adamski being the most famous).
Venusians architecture not your thing? How about a trip through Unit 11 in the Everglades? According to the listing, this development never really…developed, and it’s now the home to wild boars, exotic birds, and carnivorous plants. “Does this look inanimate to you?”

This event is sponsored by Atlas Obscura, a “Compendium of the World’s Wonders, Curiosities and Esoterica.”
As someone who once got my whole group lost for hours looking for the mystery walls in San Francisco’s East Bay (which we didn’t find), this sounds like my kind of sightseeing…but don’t let that stop you. 🙂
If you participate today, I’d love to hear about it!
