My new book: The Mind Boggles

October 13, 2012

My new book: The Mind Boggles

As regular readers know, I’ve been featuring quotations in this blog in a category called The Mind Boggles. The intro mentions that I’d been working on a book of quotations from time to time…and that’s been decades.

Well, I’ve finally published it!

The Mind Boggles: A Unique Book of Quotations

It’s available for ninety-nine cents in the Kindle store, and if you are an eligible Prime member with a hardware Kindle, you can borrow it from Amazon’s Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

I’m also going to give away ten copies to the first people who comment on this post requesting it. Please don’t include your contact information in your comment…I see your e-mail address when you post, and that information is not published. I will not use your e-mail address except to send you the gift copy.

Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you can download a free Kindle reading app to be able to read it.

I think you’ll enjoy it. I’ve collected a couple of hundred quotations from books I’ve read, movies I’ve seen, and so on. I think you’ll find some of them insightful, and they won’t be the usual quotations you see in other books.

I’ve also added a page here with links to the original sources, in case you want to own any yourself:

Shopping Guide for The Mind Boggles

Feel free to let me know what you think about it, and if you’d like a copy, just be one of the first ten to comment and ask. :)

Oh, and if you are quoted in the book, I’d love to gift you a copy. :)

Update: The Mind Boggles is the number one bestselling book of quotations in the Kindle store! I would have thought that was pretty narrow, but there are 897 titles in that group! Thanks, everybody!

“I don’t know why I should worry about…”

September 5, 2012

“I don’t why I should worry about humanity. Humanity’s never done anything for me.”
–Dr. Helen Jackson (played by Laura Bowman)
Son of Ingagi
screenplay by Spencer Williams
based on Williams’ story, House of Horror

I’ve been working, from time to time, on a book of quotations for many years.  I call it, “The Mind Boggles”, from one of my favorite quotations.  I do source quotations a bit differently from a lot of people.  In the case of a work of a fiction, I consider that the character said the line…not the author.  As a bit of an author myself (in a minor way), I can tell you…my characters definitely say things that I would never say.  These are all quotations that I’ve collected myself: I’ve read the book, seen the TV episode, and so on.

Hope you enjoy them!

July 25, 2012

“I meant my work to be given to the world, to be used for the common good. But they wouldn’t have it. They wouldn’t believe me…they laughed! All right: I’ll keep it to myself, I’ll use it for myself…and I’ll use it for my own ends.”

“Don’t know? You’re supposed to be a psychic, right?

June 5, 2012

“Years ago, my mother used to say to me, she’d say, ‘In this world, Elwood, you must be’ – she always called me Elwood – ‘In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.’  Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.”

March 21, 2012

“You know, I’m not a scientist, and neither are you, but it seems to me that you gotta sort of take a scientific approach to this. Either you prove they exist, or you prove they don’t exist…but you don’t pretend they’re not there.”
